Simms leading the pack at QB

Chris Simms looks to have a firm grasp on the starting job after performing well in Brian Griese’s absence.  Simms helped lead the team to the playoffs, but I can’t help thinking about the smirk on his face walking off the field after the loss to the Redskins.  Simms has played in 16 games (12 starts) and has completed 60.4% of his passes for 2,502 yards with 11 TD passes and 10 interceptions for a QB rating of 78.1.  For the first time since high school, Simms will not have any competition for the starting job.  He will get a chance to prove once and for all that he got here because he deserves it and not because who his daddy is.

Jay Fiedler was brought in after Luke McCown hurt himself in mini-camp.  Fiedler is a good game manager who doesn’t have much of an arm, but he is a winner.  Fiedler has played in 76 games (60 starts) and has completed 58.7% of his passes for 11,844 yards with 69 TD passes and 66 interceptions for a QB rating of 77.1.

Bruce Gradkowski looks like the third QB, because for some reason the Bucs don’t like Tim Rattay.  Rattay has appeared in 32 games (16 starts) and has completed 60.8% of his passes for 3,941 yards with 24 TD passes and 18 interceptions for a QB rating of 81.6.  Rattay will probably be traded during the pre-season.
