Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have lost 3 games in a row but secured the NFC West division championship last week.  The Bucs snapped a 4 game losing streak with a 22-7 in Cleveland last week.

The Seahawks will run the football with Shaun Alexander (804 yards rushing) and Maurice Morris (565 yards rushing) against a Bucs defense that is allowing 119.0 yards rushing per game and 3.9 yards per carry.  Matt Hasselbeck should have a good game throwing the ball against a leaky Bucs secondary that has allowed 209.5 net yards passing per game.  The Bucs don’t have much of a pass rush so Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace should be able to pick them apart.

The Bucs will probably come out running the football against the Seahawks.  Michael Pittman and Mike Alstott will probably split carries like they did so effectively last week against Cleveland.  The Seahawks defense is giving up 127.9 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry so far this season.  The Bucs also should be able to throw the ball well now that Tim Rattay is the starting QB.  Look for Rattay to spread the ball around to Joey Galloway, Maurice Stovall and TE Alex Smith.

This should be a much better game than most people will think.  I’m siding with the Seahawks in this game because they simply have the better team.

Defense leads Bucs to 22-7 win over the Browns

The Buccaneers defense essentially threw a shutout against the Cleveland Browns yesterday as the only points the Browns scored was on the defensive TD.  DT Chris Hovan had a big game with 7 tackles and a sack.  Derrick Brooks had a fantastic game with 7 tackles and an interception that he returned 21 yards for a TD.  S Jermaine Phillips also had a great game with 4 tackles and 2 interceptions.  The Browns ran the ball 20 times for 91 yards (4.6 ypc).  The Browns were awful throwing the ball as the Bucs only let them complete 10 of 28 passes for 97 net yards passing and the Bucs intercepted Derek Anderson 4 times!

The offense made the Browns pay for their mistakes.  Tim Rattay had a solid game completing 16 of 26 passes for 212 yards and an INT.  Michael Pittman got the start because Cadillac Williams was injured and he carried the ball 16 times for 86 yards (5.4 ypc) and a TD.  He also caught 4 passes for 21 yards.  Mike Alstott was busy with 22 carries for 56 yards (2.5 ypc).  Ike Hilliard (4 rec, 67 yards) and Alex Smith (4 rec, 45 yards) led the way for the Bucs receiving corps.

The Bucs improved to 4-11 on the season with this easy win in Cleveland.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cleveland Browns

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 21 December 2006 at 2:36 pm

The Buccaneers have lost four games in a row while the Cleveland Browns have lost 4 of their last 5 football games…..so something has to give this Sunday.

The Buccaneers will look to run the ball at the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.  The Browns are allowing 144.7 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry so far this season.  Cadillac Williams  (798 yards rushing, 3.5 ypc) has had a rough season so far, but he probably can’t wait to get to Cleveland.  Tim Rattay will start for the Bucs, but this is a move that should have been made a long time ago.  Rattay will be throwing deep to Joey Galloway (52 rec, 905 yards) and short to Ike Hilliard, Maurice Stovall and TE Alex Smith.

The Browns might decide to let Reuben Droughns get a lot of carries against the Bucs, who allow 121.0 yards rushing per game and 3.9 yards per carry so far this season.  The Bucs pass rush has been real bad and the result has been allowing opposing QBs to roll up a 97.3 QB rating.  If the Browns keep Derek Anderson clean and give him time to throw, he could have a huge game.  Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow and Joe Jurevicius could all have huge games this week.

For some reason I think this game will be real high scoring.  Rattay and Anderson could both have real good games against the below average pass defenses that will be on the field.  The QB that protects the football better will win this game.

Bucs put up a good fight before falling in OT 34-31 to the Bears

Coach Gruden finally got fed up with Bruce Gradkowski and replaced him with Tim Rattay.  Rattay brought the Bucs from way back and helped lead them into OT.  Rattay completed 20 of 35 passes for 268 with 3 TDs and 1 INT.  Bruce Gradkowski only completed 5 of 11 passes for 37 yards.  Cadillac Williams had a rough game with 11 carries for 26 yards (2.4 ypc),  Mike Alstott made his touches count as he carried the ball 6 times for 26 yards (4.3 ypc) and a TD.  Michael Pittman only carried the ball 2 times for 5 yards, but he caught 4 passes for 30 yards.  Joey Galloway had a great game with 3 catches for 107 yards and a TD.  Ike Hilliard also had a decent game with 3 grabs for 55 yards and a TD.  Rookie Maurice Stovall added 3 catches for 42 yards.  TE Alex Smith wasy busy with 5 catches for 24 yards and a TD.

The defense was led by Shelton Quarles who had 15 tackles.  Safety Jermaine Phillips had 9 tackles and a sack and Phillip Buchanon had 10 tackles.  The Bears ran the ball 34 times for 134 yards (3.9 ypc).  The Bears completed 29 of 44 passes for 312 net yards passing.

The Bucs fell to 3-11 on the season with this tough loss.

Old vets still playing at a high level for Bucs

You can’t blame Ronde Barber or Derrick Brooks for the awful overall play of the Bucs defense.  Derrick Brooks leads the team with 95 tackles so far this season.  Brooks is looking to make it 11 straight seasons with 100+ tackles for the Bucs.  Brooks also has 2 interceptions and has defended 2 passes.

Ronde Barber has been the only real playmaker in the secondary for the Bucs.  He has 89 tackles, 3 interceptions (2 of them he returned for TDs), 9 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles.
