Seat getting a little warm under Jon Gruden in Tampa

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General Buccaneers Talk by ravenhater on Saturday 13 January 2007 at 3:08 pm

The honeymoon for Jon Gruden is almost over.  Gruden won the Super Bowl in the 2002 season, his first on the job in Tampa, but his record is only 27-37 in the last four seasons including 4-12 this season.  For his NFL, career, Gruden is 77-67 (53.5%) in the regular season and 5-3 in the post season.  In his seasons in Tampa, Gruden has a record of 39-41 (48.8%) in the regular season and 3-1 in the post season.  Gruden proved he could win with Tony Dungy’s team, but they’ve been going backwards under Gruden’s watch.  His faith in Chris Simms could end his career in Tampa soon.

Bucs QBs a disaster zone for most of the season

Chris Simms played awful and then he got so beat up that he had to have his spleen removed.  Coach Gruden then decided to give 6th round pick Bruce Gradkowski the next shot.  He played well early, but the league caught up to him and that landed him a spot on the bench.  Tim Rattay followed and he played pretty well.

Chris Simms had a horrible year before getting knocked out for the season.  Simms started 3 games and completed 58 of 106 passes (54.7%) for 585 yards with 1 TD pass and 7 interceptions (46.3 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball 4 times for 7 yards (1.8 ypc).  For his career, Simms has played in 19 games (15 starts) and he’s completed 291 of 492 passes (59.1%) for 3,087 yards with 12 TD passes and 17 interceptions (71.2 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 30 times for 52 yards (1.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.

Bruce Gradkowski was overmatched most of the season due to a lack of arm strength.  He played in 13 games (11 starts) and he completed 177 of 328 passes (54%) for 1,661 yards with 9 TD passes and 9 interceptions (65.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 41 times for 161 yards (3.9 ypc).

Tim Rattay played the best of the Bucs QBs by far.  Rattay played in 4 games (2 starts) and completed 61 of 101 passes (60.4%) for 748 yards with 4 TD passes and 2 interceptions (88.2 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball 4 times for 3 yards (0.8 ypc).  For his career, Rattay has played in 36 games (18 starts) and he’s completed 417 of 687 passes (60.7%) for 4,689 yards with 28 TD passes and 20 interceptions (82.6 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 43 times for 72 yards (1.7 ypc).

Buccaneers lose finale 23-7 to Seahawks in Tampa

Blogged under Front Page, General Buccaneers Talk by ravenhater on Tuesday 9 January 2007 at 2:47 pm

Many thought that the Seahawks would use alot of backups with their spot in the playoffs secure, but they had other ideas.  The Seahawks wanted to come into the playoffs sharp and played their regulars who were just too good for the Bucs to deal with.  Tim Rattay had a decent game as he completed 16 of 27 passes for 185 yards with a TD pass.  Michael Pittman had another good game with Cadillac out.  He carried the ball 12 times for 73 yards (6.1 ypc) and he caught 3 passes for 36 yards.  Joey Galloway played really well also with 8 grabs for 118 yards and a TD.

Derrick Brooks led the defense with 11 tackles, but the defense didn’t play that well as a whole.  The Seahawks ran the ball 42 times for 132 yards (3.1 ypc).  They also completed 17 of 29 passes for 212 net yards passing.

The loss dropped the Bucs to 4-12 on the season.  http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=261231027
