The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released DE Simeon Rice which shows how cold the NFL really is.  He failed a physical because of the condition of his shoulder which was operated on in the off-season.  Rice played in 8 games last year for the Bucs and he made 18 tackles, had 2 sacks, defensed 2 passes and forced 4 fumbles.  Rice will go down as one of the best defensive players in Bucs history.  He played 6 seasons in Tampa Bay and he played in 87 games for them.  In those 87 games, Rice made 242 tackles, had 69.5 sacks, 4 interceptions, defensed 33 passes, forced 25 fumbles and recovered a fumble that he returned for a TD.  Gaines Adams (the Bucs first round pick) will be under big pressure to provide a pass rush from Day #1.

The NFL has suspended CB Torrie Cox for the first 4 games of the 2007 season after he violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy.  This will hurt the Bucs a little bit as Cox is a very important special teams player.  He played in all 16 games for the Bucs last season and he made 30 tackles, defensed 3 passes and recovered 1 fumble.  He also returned 18 kickoffs for 387 yards (21.5 avg).
