The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are loaded with underachievers at TE
If hype got you to the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio……Alex Smith, Anthony Becht and Jerramy Stevens would already be enshrined. Everyone thought these guys were going to be stars but all they do is make you scratch your head as you watch them waste their talents. Alex Smith still has time to turn it around for the Buccaneers. He played in 14 games (7 starts) last season for the Bucs and he caught 35 passes for 250 yards (7.1 avg) with 3 TD grabs. Hopefully the competition in Training Camp will push Smith to play harder and better in 2007, but I doubt it. He has now played in 30 games (17 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 76 passes for 617 yards (8.1 avg) with 5 TD grabs.
Anthony Becht was lauded by the New York media as the Jets savior at tight end when they drafted him but boy were they wrong. He played in 16 games (all starts) last season for the Bucs and he caught 18 passes for 115 yards (6.4 avg) with 1 TD grab. Don’t expect much out of him in 2007. Becht has now played in 110 games (104 starts) in his NFL career and he has caught 167 passes for 1,391 yards (8.3 avg) with 18 TD grabs.
Jerramy Stevens is looking to keep his once promising career alive in Tampa. He played in 11 games (6 starts) in Seattle last year and he caught 22 passes for 231 yards (10.5 avg) with 4 TD grabs. For his career he has played in 71 games (26 starts) and he has caught 130 passes for 1,458 yards (11.2 avg) with 15 TD grabs.
