The Buccaneers turned up the D while playing efficient offense in beating the Panthers yesterday.  Josh Freeman was very solid in this game as he completed 12 of 24 passes for 178 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 43 yards (10.8 ypc) yesterday.  Cadillac Williams rushed for 51 yards on 27 carries (1.9 ypc) in this game.  Earnest Graham only carried the ball 3 times for 1 yard (0.3 ypc) but he also caught 5 passes for 33 yards (6.6 avg) with a TD grab.  TE Kellen Winslow (4 rec, 83 yards) and rookie WR Mike Williams (2 rec, 54 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Buccaneers yesterday.  The Buccaneers finished up with 95 yards rushing on 34 carries (2.8 ypc) and they completed 12 of 25 passes for 178 yards in this game.

LBs Barrett Ruud (9 tackles) and Quincy Black (8 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Bucs on D in this game.  Ronde Barber and Aqib Talib both picked off passes against the Panthers and DE Kyle Moore recovered a fumble which were all HUGE plays for the Bucs in this game.  The Panthers finished up with 119 yards rushing on 33 carries (3.6 ypc) and they completed 13 of 29 passes for 159 yards.  The Buccaneers are off to a very surprising 2-0 start to the 2010 season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17, Cleveland Browns 14

The Buccaneers made a couple of big plays on both offense and defense yesterday and that was good enough to beat the Browns.  Josh Freeman, playing with a broken thumb on his right hand, completed 17 of 28 passes for 182 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 34 yards (17.0 ypc) in this game.  Cadillac Williams led the way on the ground for the Bucs in this game with 22 carries for 75 yards (3.4 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 23 yards (11.5 avg).  WRs Mike Williams (5 rec, 30 yards, TD) and Michael Spurlock (2 rec, 49 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Bucs yesterday.  The Buccaneers finished up with 119 yards rushing on 30 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 28 passes for 169 yards in this game.

The defense gave up a lot of yards to the Browns but they also had three huge turnovers that changed the outcome of this game.  LBs Geno Hayes (8 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss) and Barrett Ruud (8 tackles) led the way for the Bucs on D in this game.  CB E.J. Biggers had a solid game for the Bucs yesterday with 6 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  CB Ronde Barber made a huge impact win this game for the Buccaneers.  He had 4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 2 passes defensed and a 64-yard interception return that set up the Bucs first TD yesterday.  The Browns finished up with 104 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 38 passes for 236 yards.  The Bucs still have improvement to make on both sides of the ball but to get a win like this will give them a huge boost of confidence.

Atlanta Falcons 20, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10

The Buccaneers got put in their place yesterday by the Falcons.  Josh Freeman looked like the rookie he is yesterday as he completed 16 of 32 passes for 174 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INT.  Cadillac Williams had a very hard time yesterday getting anything going as he carried the ball 19 times for 40 yards (2.1 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 35 yards (8.8 avg).  TE Kellen Winslow (5 rec, 56 yards) and WR Antonio Bryant (2 rec, 15 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Bucs yesterday.  The Buccaneers finished up with only 206 total yards on offense (38 rushing, 168 passing) as they only had possession of the ball for 24:31.

LBs Barrett Ruud (17 tackles) and Geno Hayes (12 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Buccaneers on defense in this game.  Safeties Tanard Jackson (6 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 INT) and Sabby Piscitelli (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) as they were also both really active for the Bucs in this game.  The Falcons finished up with 397 total  yards (183 rushing, 214 passing) in this game.  The Buccaneers are now 3-13 on the year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20, New Orleans Saints 17 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Buccaneers Talk by admin on Monday 28 December 2009 at 8:38 am

The Buccaneers shocked the world yesterday by beating the Saints in New Orleans.  It wasn’t just that they beat the Saints it’s how they did it.  The Bucs scored 14 points in the 4th quarter to send the game into O.T. then Josh Freeman led them down the field to set up the game winning 47-yard field goal by Connor Barth.  Josh Freeman was solid completing 21 of 31 passes for 271 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 7 yards (3.5 ypc) yesterday.  Cadillac Williams was outstanding for the Buccaneers yesterday with 129 yards rushing on 24 carries (5.4 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 19 yards (6.3 avg).  Derrick Ward pitched in with 32 yards rushing on 7 carries (4.6 ypc) yesterday.  Ernest Graham only carried the ball 1 time for 8 yards but he also added 4 catches for 43 yards (10.8 avg).  TE Kellen Winslow (4 rec, 76 yards) and WR Antonio Bryant (5 rec, 52 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Bucs yesterday.  The Buccaneers finished up with 439 total yards on offense (176 rushing, 263 passing) in this game as they had possession of the ball for 36:15.

The defense was in a bend but don’t break mode yesterday as they gave up a lot of years without giving up a lot of points.  Linebacker Geno Hayes led the way for the Bucs yesterday with 10 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit.  CB Ronde Barber pitched in with 9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 QB hit and a fumble recovery.  The Saints finished up with 373 total yards on offense (124 rushing, 249 passing) yesterday.  But, the Bucs also got a huge play in the third phase of the game (special teams) as Michael Spurlock returned a punt 77 yards for a TD with only 2:25 left in the game to tie it.  The Buccaneers are now 3-12 on the season as they have now won 2 games in a row.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24, Seattle Seahawks 7

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-12) forced 5 turnovers on their way to a nice win over the Seattle Seahawks (5-9).  Josh Freeman really stepped up in this game, as the rookie quarterback bounced back in the second half very nicely after a slow first half.  He threw one pick in the first half, but came out in the second half and took care of the ball on his way to two touchdown passes.  He finished with the 2 touchdowns and 1 interception for 205 yards on 16/26 passes.  Freeman also got a lot of help from his running backs, with Cadillac Williams and Derrick Ward combining for 133 yards on 31 carries and each catching a touchdown pass.  They Bucs may only have two games left, but their offense is finally showing signs of life.

The Bucs’ defense, particularly the secondary, played very well.  They took advantage of Seahawks’ quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and his erratic throws.  They picked off Hasselbeck four times and also forced and recovered a fumble on the former Pro Bowl quarterback.  They didn’t do great against the run, giving up 128 rushing yards, but the Bucs defense did not look like a 1-12 team.  It looks like the Bucs finally have some positive things to build on for next year.

New York Jets 26, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3

The Bucs sucked on both sides of the football today and the score could have been much worse if they were playing a better offensive football team.  Josh Freeman continued to stink it up today as he completed 14 of 33 passes for 93 yards with 0 TD passes and 3 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 21 yards (5.3 ypc).  Cadillac Williams also had a game to forget as he carried the ball 11 times for 14 yards (1.3 ypc).  Kellen Winslow led the way in the passing game for the Bucs with 4 grabs for 26 yards (6.5 avg) today.  The Buccaneers finished up with 124 total yards on offense today (43 rushing, 81 passing) as they had possession of the ball for 25:54!

LB Barrett Ruud (11 tackles) and S Tanard Jackson (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) did their part on D.  Too bad the other 9 guys stunk today.  The Jets finished up with 310 total yards on offense today (175 rushing, 135 passing) in this game.  The Buccaneers are now 1-12 on the year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6, Carolina Panthers 16

Josh Freeman had a terrible game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-11) and they lost to the Carolina Panthers (5-7) because of it.  Freeman threw 5 interceptions and the Bucs’ offense went 0-4 in the red zone.  The only offense the Bucs got was from their kicker Connor Barth, who hit a 21 and 46 yarder in the 2nd quarter.  That is pretty bad, especially since the Bucs were able to move the ball down the field.  They had 469 total yards of offense, yet they were unable to get into the endzone.

The Bucs’ defense did a pretty good job in this game, but they couldn’t contain Panthers’ running back Jonathon Stewart.  Stewart was pretty much the only offense the Panthers could get, but since the Bucs’ offense was so pathetic it was all the Panthers needed.  Stewart rushed for 120 yards and the Panthers lone touchdown on 26 carries.  This was a very ugly game for the Buccaneers, and Josh Freeman has not been making the progress the Bucs would like to see.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-10) were only seconds away from their second victory of the season, but the Atlanta Falcons (6-5) came from behind and scored with only 23 seconds left to win the game.  Josh Freeman had the best game of his short career for the Bucs, going 20/29 for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns.  They were mediocre on the ground though, getting only 73 yards on 26 carries as a team, but it was the defense that could not get the job done when it was needed most.

Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan and their top running back Michael Turner both left the game due to injuries.  Without those two players the Falcons are just not the same, and the Bucs were almost able to steal the win because of it.  They did not do a good enough job against the Falcons’ backup quarterback, Chris Redman.  Redman threw for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns on 23/41 passes.  The special teams came up big when Corey Lynch blocked a punt that set the table for the Bucs  3rd quarter touchdown and gave them the lead.  They were able to hold onto that lead until the Falcons’ final drive, when Redman hit Roddy White for the game winning touchdown.

The Bucs must have irked the Saints after they scored first in this game because they destroyed the Bucs the rest of the way.  QB Josh Freeman finally looked like a rookie QB today as he completed 17 of 33 passes for 126 yards with 1 TD pass and 3 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 30 yards (15.0 ypc) today but he also lost a fumble.  Overall, Freeman had a day to forget.  Cadillac Williams led the way for the Bucs today with 32 yards rushing on 11 carries (2.9 ypc).  Earnest Graham only carried the ball 3 times but he got 31 yards (10.3 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 16 yards (5.3 avg).  Derrick Ward rushed for 26 yards on 7 carries (3.7 ypc) today and he also caught 3 passes for 14 yards (4.7 avg).  Antonio Bryant led the way in the passing game for the Bucs today with 40 yards on 3 catches (13.3 avg).  TE Kellen Winslow pitched in with 5 catches for 29 yards (5.8 avg) today.  The Buccaneers could only muster 219 total yards on offense in this game (119 rushing, 100 passing) and that’s just not good enough to get the job done.

The defense had another long day for the Bucs today.  LB Barrett Ruud led the way for the Bucs’ D today with 10 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  CB Ronde Barber pitched in with 6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  The Saints finished up with 370 total yards on offense (183 rushing, 187 passing) in this game.  The Buccaneers are now 1-9 on the season.

The Buccaneers lost a heartbreaker as they took the lead 23-22 with 1:14 seconds left in the game but then the defense gave up the game.  Josh Freeman had another solid game as he completed 16 of 28 passes for 196 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 36 yards (5.1 ypc) earlier today.  One area that Freeman has to do a better job of is holding onto the football as he fumbled 4 times today (losing 1).  Cadillac Williams led the way on the ground for the Bucs in this game with 52 yards rushing on 14 carries (3.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Derrick Ward pitched in with 34 yards rushing on only 10 carries (3.4 ypc) today.  Kellen Winslow led the way in the passing game for the Bucs today with 7 catches for 102 yards (14.6 avg).  WR Maurice Stovall pitched in with 4 catches for 47 yards (11.8 avg) with a TD grab.  The Buccaneers finished up with 302 total yards on offense (122 rushing, 180 passing)  in this game.

The Bucs’ D was pretty awful as usual in this game.  Safeties Tanard Jackson and Sabby Piscitelli led the way for the Bucs in this game with 9 tackles apiece.  Linebacker Quincy Black pitched in for the Bucs with 7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception today.  The Dolphins finished up with 374 total yards in this game (199 rushing, 175 passing) today.  The Buccaneers are now 1-8 on the season.
