The Bucs took a lead when Jonathan Compton threw a TD pass with 2:07 left in the game but the defense couldn’t hold as the Redskins scored a TD just one minute later. The offense looked pretty good for the Bucs last night. Rudy Carpenter started at QB and he completed 9 of 18 passes for 211 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs. Jonathan Compton completed 12 of 22 passes for 149 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT as he finished up at QB last night for the Bucs. RB Mossis Madu led the way on the ground for the Bucs in this game with 8 carries for 41 yards (5.1 ypc). He also caught 3 passes for 20 yards (6.7 avg). RB Armando Allen pitched in with 1 carry for 2 yards and he caught 1 pass for 20 yards and it went for a TD. WRs Ed Gant (2 rec, 121 yards, TD (96 yarder) and Maurice Price (3 rec, 49 yards) led the way for the Bucs in the passing game. The Buccaneers rushed for 76 yards on 22 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 40 passes (52.5%) for 321 yards despite only having the ball for 27:07.
LB Somoni Lawrence (12 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss), CB Elbert Mack (9 tackles, 2 passes defensed) and LB Tyrone McKenzie (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed) led the way for the Bucs’ D in this game. DT John McCargo was also impressive with 5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 2 QB hits in this game. Safety Devin Holland (interception), CB D.J. Johnson (interception) and DE Da’Quan Bowers (fumble recovery) also made big plays for the Bucs. The Redskins finished up with 123 yards rushing on 32 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 40 passes (50%) for 212 yards in this game. The Buccaneers finished up the preseason with a 2-2 record.
